Hermitage Chapel of Valle Crucis Conference Center Valle Crucis, NC
The Valle Crucis Conference Center is affiliated with the Episcopal Church. Located in a storybook, pastoral valley in the mountains of North Carolina, it is a place of spiritual renewal and regeneration. The Hermitage Chapel is located in a remote, wooded portion of the property and serves four lovely cabins arranged around it. The rustic surroundings are echoed in the Altar and Kneeler that I designed for the chapel making use of simple forms and bark-edged boards. The pieces are made of catalpa that came from the property and was milled and dried there, as well as ash found in nearby Ashe county. The kneeler will receive a cushion, not yet pictured.
