News and New Work
"Making and Mastering Wood Planes" is in its 4th printing. Visit the Book page for ordering information. Soon available on video too! See the trailer here I am currently in post-production on the video version of the book. While either format will get you to a finished, functioning plane, the two taken together gives you the most thorough coverage of the topic. The book works great as a bench-top reference and self-paced instructional guide and includes many fundamentals of fine woodworking as well. The video pulls it all together and presents information and nuance that truly only comes across in moving pictures. Click here for notification when it's ready -- projected, March 2012. My partner in this project, Agricola Media (www.agricolamedia.com) has done a great job pulling it all together -- I am very excited about this!
All sizes of my custom-made plane irons are currently available. They are made specifically for the type of wooden plane described in my book. These blades were favored by James Krenov in his own planes and have truly exceptional edge retention.. Check the Plane Irons page for more information.
In the works: I'm in the final stage of an acoustic steel string guitar based on Martin's OM-style body, and just getting started on a greenwood rocker. This rocker will incorporate elements of previous ones and include some changes as well.
On Sale! I have rarely placed items on sale, but I have a sweet little cabinet of Macassar ebony, made to house earrings, that has been looking for a home for some time now. I am offering it at half of its original price. Valentines Day is coming up you know...See it here
A word about private instruction. I've been spending a lot of time lately with folks on a one-on-one basis. One very successful activity has been hands-on plane-making in a two-day format. Another is learning about hand-cut dovetails and frame and panel work though making a box. One fellow is in the process of building a glass-front, wall-mounted cabinet. Upcoming planned private workshops also include building a hall table, and exploring the design, layout, and shaping of Krenov-style cabinet legs. Please inquire about your particular interest.
