Guitars
My aim is to provide a distinctive handmade guitar combining great looks and feel, with precision craftsmanship, easy playability, and a sound that is resonant and lush. You will find my guitars also provide exceptional value being competitively priced with high-end factory-made instruments.
General
Tops are carefully graduated and bracing is scalloped and meticulously finished. I use a bolt on neck with a mortise and tenon joint for security and ease of future neck adjustment. My signature rosette is made from spalted maple or beech (spalting refers to the fine lines in the wood, resulting from a fungus).
Finishes
The soundboards (tops) of all my guitars are French polished in the traditional manner. It's a time consuming process of applying a shellac finish in hundreds of micro-thin layers. The result is a beautifully burnished surface that seems to glow from within. Even more importantly, shellac resin is ideally suited for guitars, noticeably enhancing the tone of the instrument like no other finish I have tried. Back and sides are finshed with a high gloss water-based lacquer or a fine oil finish depending on the client's preference or wood suitability
Binding and Purfling
These decorative elements also protect the edges of the guitar's body. Bindings are custom made from a variety of hardwoods. For classical guitars, traditional three-line purfling is fully mitered.
