I built the first table of this design in 2005. The overall design came quickly, but the exact splay of the legs (they cant in both directions) took some time to get just right -- a few fractions of an inch one way or the other was too much or too little and looked very awkward. That time I built the table in very splashy woods. I wanted to reproduce it in calmer wood because I felt the form was so successful that the flash was irrelevant. I made some changes to the design: a partition between the drawers helps the proportioning, and this table lent itself to solid wood construction. As good a piece as the last table was, this quieter version is even more to my liking.
