By arrangement with noted bladesmith Ron Hock. The plane irons offered here (pictured above) are crafted from A-2 alloy steel, then cryogenically treated. A-2 steel is formulated for abrasion resistance and is particularly responsive to cryogenic treatment. The steel, cryo-treatment, and skillful execution result in plane blades with outstanding edge retention. They are designed specifically for the type of planes featured in my book, Making and Mastering Wood Hand Planes. These are often called “Krenov-style” planes in honor of James Krenov who adapted the classic European wooden plane to this form and wrote about them in his book, The Fine Art of Cabinetmaking. Your satisfaction is unconditionally guaranteed. These are blades to last a life-time, and beyond.
